| Description | History of old trade beads and history of the beads on the Lewis & Clark inventory that were used for gifts to the Native Americans. I have beads from that time period and will bring my personal collection of old beads and related items for the presentation. My presentation will be a detailed study of how and where they were made and how they were brought to America. I will also discuss the history of Arikara Indians with artifacts that were found at the Montana/North Dakota border, including bone and shell beads as well as beads from the Bison Robe Trade at Fort Union. Included in my presentation will be stories and folklore about the Lewis & Clark journey. I dress in mountain man clothing similar to what was worn in that time period. | ||||
| Credentials | My cousin, Hugh McCracken, visited Lewis & Clark at the Mandan Village around November 1, 1804. I have done several classes for the public, including the library, the staff of the Museum of the Rockies (Bozeman), and School District #2. |
