Agencies and Technical ExpertsMTRI Focus TeamThe Montana Tourism and Recreation Initiative (MTRI) is a coalition of a number of key state and federal agencies all sharing an interest in tourism and recreation in Montana. In order to specifically facilitate planning for the upcoming Bicentennial, a special MTRI Focus Team has been created which presently encompasses eight agencies. This Focus Team meets regularly and searches for projects of common interest, working together to maximize efforts. These people may be a great resource for individual questions you may have. Lewis & Clark in Montana: Interpretive Sign Strategy The federal and state agencies participating in MTRI’s Lewis & Clark Focus Team have developed an interpretive sign strategy to assist with the creation of a unified, coordinated statewide series of signs telling the Montana stories related to the historic expedition. The strategy is a tool for agencies, organizations, communities and private sector sponsors to utilize in planning, designing, producing and locating signage. The Interpretive Sign Strategy is followed by a series of appendices that provide extensive detail about Montana’s existing interpretive signs, planning efforts, new signage opportunities, suggested story lines, graphic guidelines, examples and resources for technical assistance. The strategy was commissioned by the MTRI agencies and produced through their technical and financial contributions as well as funding support from the Montana Power Company and a National Park Service Challenge Cost Share Grant.
Travel Montana's Tourism Development and Education efforts are focused on helping the state's communities and businesses utilize tourism as a tool to improve the local, regional and state economy while protecting or improving the quality of life for Montana's residents. The guidelines for these efforts are provided by the Montana Tourism Industry's Five-Year Strategic Plan and Travel Montana's corresponding Five-Year Marketing Plan.
