Attending: Sandra Cahill, Becky Douglass, Diana Seider, Dick Baerman, Charlie Rahn, Doris Whithorn, Jackie Robbins, Penny Carpenter
April 7, 2003
Meeting was called to order at 5:30 pm at the Rural Fire Dept. Minutes were approved as mailed out. Financial report by Jackie--the $2,000 O & P Grant check has been mailed. Driving Tour Project- sent $4,000 to Sea Reach in Oregon for the bases and work on signs- balance $6,600.00. Commission Fund balance-$5024.15.
Finally got payment from KLB for Brian's repair work on the 4th panel. Reminders to write down our "in-kind" work/time. Jackie made new half-sheet records to use. Nice and easy to use.
Reported on request for CTEP funds to complete the Driving Tour signs. No one knows when a decision will be made by the Co. Commissioners. Much paperwork will be involved if our project is approved and we will help do this with Jackie. Discussed requesting consideration with the City of Livingston too. Becky will request to be notified when their hearing is.
Becky read her letter to the County Commissioners and Refuse Board regarding the trash can at our Sign. Agreed to table it for now.
Sculpture committee report: Bob Ebinger & Dick were to get a list together of where to advertise. Charlie & Dick will check with Bob on this. We need to get ads out soon. Becky & Penny drafted a "call for bids" letter. This will be sent to all artists that respond to the ad. Ad will be sent to local artists too. Set a time line for receiving sketches/ideas of Oct 15, 2003. Juried by Oct 30, 2003. Possibly could also sell posters of the piece as well as small statues. Dick is going to Washington in May to an artists event and will take the ad notice with him to it.
Corridor banner idea-- no steering committee meeting called yet so not sure where it stands with the whole Corridor. Input from Big Timber folks not too enthused due to small size of town and their wind. Likewise here. Also discussed the liability issue if signs were to be blown off or over, etc.
Upcoming meetings--Sandra and Penny going to Great Falls 4/13 thru 4/16. Doris going to Confluence of Cultures and the RBC meeting in Missoula, 5/28 thru 5/31.
Sandra and Brian went to Governor's Conference in Helena. Discussed Superhost training. People who are open to learning and changing should be encouraged to go. $20.00 and have price for seniors. Dates not set yet. Chamber staff should go. Becky took 450 Walking Tour brochures to the Chamber at their request. People are wanting them. This year is 100th anniversary of the Gardiner Arch to Yellowstone Park. Mt. Stockgrower's has an Undaunted Stewardship program going.
Corps II- needs applications for presenters to be sent in soon. The "Tent of Many Voices" will be local folks, telling their stories....suggestions included: Doris Whithorn, Pete Story, Larry Lahren, Barney Old Coyote, Don Ellis, Bob Wiltshire, Brian Sparks, Warren McGee, Mike Art, friend of Bob Raney,......more ideas needed. Also will ask Big Timber and Reed Point for folks to ask to participate.
Discussed the quilt idea. Can get a copy of a book in Great Falls. 18 or 20 inch squares. Talk to quilters you may know. Funds from quilt raffle would go towards statue project. Jackie will talk to the Guild.
Jackie will be having surgery in another week and is also doing all of Ellen Woodbury's job. They hope for a replacement soon.
Next meeting will be the 4th Monday, 4/28 at 5:30 pm. Penny will be out of town so someone else needs to take minutes. Thanks.MO<
Penny Carpenter, Recorder
Addendum to 4/7/03 Minutes.
Discussed the final drafts for the first six signs of the Driving Tour. Becky will follow up with Jeanne Marie and Laurie to find out where this stands. We don't know if they've been sent to Sea Reach or not. Also don't know when Laurie wants to help us put up the bases that are here.
