LEWIS AND CLARK CORPS II COMMUNITIES RECEIVE GRANT FUNDS - 4-27-05
“We are working with the private sector to secure sponsorship of Lewis and Clark events at all levels across the state,” Commission Executive Director Clint Blackwood said. “We want this to be a great event not only for Montanans, but for all those across the nation and beyond who will be coming here to experience our state for the first time.” “Qwest is pleased to be involved again with the state Bicentennial Commission this year across Montana. These legacy events that support a number of wonderful activities throughout the year will bring information and enjoyment to the people of Montana and those who will be visiting us,” Rick Hays, president of Montana Qwest said. The commission is working to distribute money to support local events in 11 Montana communities in 2005 that will be hosting the National Park Service’s traveling Corps II venue; seven additional sites are planned in 2006. Corps II is a walk-through exhibit that provides visitors an overview of the 1803-06 Expedition and is transported by a customized semi-trailer. The 200-seat “Tent of Many Voices” provides a stage where local sponsors, Indian tribes, and state and federal agencies can provide presenters and performers to the public. The exhibit also includes a replica keelboat and Plains Indian lodge where NPS rangers provide programs about life along the Trail.
